Time for a Doctor

Temporary (acute) diarrhea usually goes away in a few days. You should see a doctor if you experience any of the following symptoms:

  • Persistent diarrhea that lasts longer than one week
  • Dehydration symptoms such as dry mouth, excessive thirst, weakness, dizziness or light-headedness
  • A persistent high temperature (over 39° C or 102° F)
  • Stool that contains blood or mucus
  • Severe abdominal or rectal pains

When in doubt about the cause or seriousness of your diarrhea, your doctor is the final authority. Trust the expertise of your doctor. It's always better to be cautious when it comes to your health.
